Restorative Justice

Restorative Justice (RJ) is a set of practices that support the needs of students, teachers, staff, and other stakeholders towards building and strengthening relationships for the well-being of the entire school community. One of the main RJ practices involves Community Building Circles, which foster mutual understanding and accountability among participants through dialogue and socio-emotional learning.

Restorative Justice also functions as both a proactive approach to prevent conflict as well as to respond to conflict and disciplinary matters. To address an incidence of harm, Restorative Justice uses Harm & Conflict Circle practices to ask the person who caused harm to take responsibility for her/his actions, help the harmed person to heal, and involve the community as a whole to offer support and encouragement.
